HOW MUCH DOES THE SERVICE COST?
Please call Digital Healthcare at 919-554-9650 for pricing information.

WHAT IS THE LENGTH OF TIME FOR WHICH WE ARE COMMITTING?
There is no time commitment for Retasure. You agree to a per-image service fee and pay for the service as you use it.

WHAT IS THE REIMBURSEMENT OF EACH ENCOUNTER TO US?
The practice can expect to receive between $65 and $250 for each patient encounter depending on the insurance carrier reimbursement.

WHO TAKES THE PICTURE?
Typically, a nurse or an office staff member takes the picture. Physician involvement in the image capture is not necessary. We can train anyone to take acceptable pictures within two to four hours.

IS THIS A COMPLICATED PROCEDURE?
No.  The patient is placed in front of the fundus camera and has a picture taken of each of their retinas.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
The entire process takes no more than 5 to 10 minutes.

HOW MUCH SPACE DOES THIS REQUIRE?
The total space , including seating for the patient and the photographer, is
approximately 3 feet wide by 6 feet long. The dimensions of the actual camera are 12” W x 20” D x 20” H.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SPACE?
It is optimal if the room can be darkened.

IS IT PAINFUL FOR THE PATIENT?
It is not painful for the patient. The patient rests their chin on a chin rest, leans their forehead onto a mount and looks into the end of a fundus camera.  The patient is instructed to focus on a blinking dot and a low intensity flash captures the image.

WHO DOES THE BILLING?
The primary diabetes care practice performs the billing.

WHAT IS THE BILLING CODE THAT IS USED?
The billing code is 92250 — Color Fundus Photography.

IS THE DIGITAL HEALTHCARE NETWORK HIPAA COMPLIANT?
We use a HIPAA-compliant encryption and authentication to secure the image data as it is transmitted from your office to the reading location.

HAS THE SOFTWARE BEEN CLEARED BY THE FDA?
Yes, K071299. See http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfPMN/pmn.cfm?ID=24533 for more details.

HOW DO WE GET THE RESULTS OF THE EXAM?
Results are available online from the Retasure provider web portal.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING THIS TYPE OF WORK?
Digital Healthcare has been doing Diabetic Retinal Imaging since 2000. Our product is used in many research and methods development centers, including The University of Wisconsin, where the clinical standards for diabetic retinopathy were established through its Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS). ETDRS is the evidence base for the clinical prevention of the disease.

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE PRODUCE BAD IMAGES?
Our goal is to achieve a consistently low technical failure rate across all programs. In some cases, patients present with media opacity, typically caused by cataracts; and in some cases, patients have very small pupils making the photography more difficult. While the type of fundus camera we use is designed specifically to deal with these problems, there is a still a small proportion of images that may be classified as “unreadable.” In some cases, images cannot be graded because of instrument operator error. If the quality threshold based on operator error increases to an unacceptable level, we will provide you with additional training. We have experienced less than 5% technical failure rate.

HOW QUICKLY CAN WE GET STARTED?
We are prepared to begin implementing the system at your convenience.
